ListSTAR

Powerful Internet mailing lists and EMail-on-Demand!

Overview

StarNine's ListSTAR is the most powerful and flexible automated email processor for the Macintosh. It allows you to create and maintain Internet mailing lists, automated email response systems ("EMail-On-Demand") and direct mailing lists on the Internet and your local email network. Easy-to-templates will help you have your lists up and running within minutes!

Version 1.2 is better than ever -- ListSTAR is powerful enough for the InfoMac shareware/freeware updates mailing list, the Tidbits Mac news mailing list, and even Santa and the elves to use!

Host Internet Mailing Lists

Mailing lists are one of the best ways to collaborate, discuss ideas, and reach new markets via the Internet. Academics have used mailing lists for years to share ideas and publish information. Companies can use ListSTAR to disseminate newsletters instantly and inexpensively via email. Now, communicators in all fields are discovering the power of email to form communities of people with common interests. ListSTAR lets you do it all on your Mac OS computer, running as an SMTP server or using a POP account (both the SMTP and POP versions are included).

Publish With EMail-On-Demand

EMail On Demand services are automated email response systems similar to Fax-On-Demand and Fax Back systems. They let you publish both text and binary computer files of any kind via email.

You can use ListSTAR's EMail-On-Demand feature to distribute information such as price lists, technical support notes, classroom schedules, product brochures - you name it. Customers simply send email requesting information and ListSTAR sends back the requested files - automatically!

How It Works

Each ListSTAR service is comprised of an email account with a set of 'rules' (message characteristics such as keywords, sender name, address, etc.). When a message is received by ListSTAR, it performs the appropriate task depending on which rule was triggered. For example, ListSTAR can forward the message to a list, subscribe a user to the list, file the message, send an auto-reply, or launch an AppleScript. One copy of ListSTAR can support many services, and the templates include all the rules for the most common uses, just add your address information, rename the service and go!

ListSTAR includes extensive support for both AppleScript and Frontier. This has allowed StarNine and third parties to create products to extend the use of ListSTAR including automated backup, paging and sorting. And ListSTAR includes a utility to connect with a WebSTAR server so users can Subscribe and Unsubscribe to lists via your Web pages.

ListSTAR software makes administering mailing lists and MailBots on the Mac OS a breeze!

System Requirements

ListSTAR/SMTP

ListSTAR includes both SMTP and POP versions. ListSTAR/SMTP runs as an independent SMTP host on a TCP/IP network, including the Internet, and is recommended for sites with full-time Internet connections. It requires:

Note: The SMTP version cannot be run on the same machine as any other mail server (such as AIMS/EIMS or the StarNine Mail*Link SMTP Gateway) because both applications require access to the same SMTP socket.

ListSTAR/POP (for sites with discontinuous Internet connections)

ListSTAR/POP performs mailing list services as a POP client. It is recommended for sites with periodic Internet connections. It requires:

Note: Some types of lists, such as Announcement Lists and others require additional accounts for administration.
